Today has been a full day of orientation, but a day that has grown and encouraged me - just in the last 24 hours, and we're not even in Africa yet!
This morning I had breakfast with a fantastic missionary couple and their two young girls (10 and 7) from Chad. They are home on home assignment after being evacuated from the field a few months ago. Their daughter was asking her mom for jam on her bagel instead of peanut butter after the peanut butter was on the bread. Her mom compassionately explained that she understood she was tired of peanut butter, but that she couldn't waste the food. When the daughter returned obediently to her seat, her dad explained to me that the only food item them had time to grab when evacuating was a gallon sized can of peanut butter.
So they lived off that for three and a half weeks.
"She's just a little tired of pentameter."
I have so much to learn.
We had the chance to go into New York City this afternoon, but all the lights just weren't as impressive as I was expecting. We leave tomorrow and fly for 8 hours to London, where we have a day-long layover and have the chance to go into the city.
Praying for more teachable moments,
Amy
