Okay. I don’t even know where to start. I am so excited to write about today! Josie, Romi, Jason and I met with Esme who is the founder of King’s Daughters Prostitute Rehabilitation in the capital, Windhoek. We met with her to cast the vision for what the extension of King’s Daughter’s will look like in Reheboth. Oh my goodness. This is going to be so much bigger than I ever dreamed possible.
The program will host women for 6 to 9 months, caring for their children, teaching women to feed them and care for them, counseling, job training, job placement, all that good stuff. I started working on the proposal as soon as I could. I’ve never written a proposal. Ever. But here we go…
I feel like this is my “Esther Moment”. Let me explain. I initially asked Josie if there was any ministry to local prostitutes. No. That got her and I talking and thinking. It’s needed, really needed. We talked it thought over and over, and this is what we came up with. She asked me to write the proposal because, well, I’m white. Not only white, American. Ooh la la. She said the council will give it to me 100 times faster if I asked. So I’m asking.
So, Esther. Well, she was Jewish, her ethnicity made a big difference. She didn’t seek out some big job, but just by being where God wanted her at “such a time as this” she made a big difference. Yeah, okay, I’m stretching the analogy. But I’m still going to use it. And hopefully God will do something like in women’s lives through this process. All glory to Him!
Chandre has been coming daily. I’m so thankful. I get to eat lunch with her and then draw pictures and numbers and letters. She drew a picture of me and her. It’s my most priceless souvenir.
There’s been a lot of spiritual warfare going on lately. It’s believed that the Satanists unleashed a spirit of suicide over the town. Though I know we have overcome in Christ, I fear for those who don’t know Him. I fear for my students. They have … no, they do struggle so much.
[Off topic… Right now, as I’m trying to write these updates for the blog, Bethany has a group of primary school students in the other room having Bible Study on the 10 Commandments. They are hysterical. One of the little chubby boys, Giovanni, has a crush on me. There’s no hiding it, either. I asked what homework they were working on. “Looking at you.” Okay…what project are you trying to get accomplished this afternoon? “To get a picture of you on my phone so I can put it on my computer and print it off.” So I came into this room so the study could continue. Bethany asked questions like “why is there sin in the world?” His answer, “Can you please get Amy to give me a picture?” I can’t stop laughing. Back on topic…]
Josie and Lolly (host mothers) work in a law office a few blocks away. They have been hearing a deep, rough breathing in the office lately. They thought it was a snake, but a man named Rassi, a man extremely blessed of God with much insight into spiritual warfare, said it was the spirit. I was quick to dismiss it, but Jason heard it several times on his way to the office to use the internet. He said he couldn’t locate it. it seemed to follow him. One of Alex’s students told him she has been hearing the same noise in her bedroom at night…particularly when she’s thinking about all the reasons to kill herself.
Please pray for us. We have power in Christ. We have overcome. That doesn’t mean we don’t understand and aren’t ever afraid.
