Seasons

Every unfolded day, a new invitation to journey through the seasons.

Every drop of sunshine is full of familiarity and excitement. There is joy on the breeze along with the dandelion seeds, skipping by the pond and round the children's swings.

Yes, I see You in summer.

Then the trees begin to whisper to one another as they bend in the breeze growing cool and crisp. Majestic red and orange and goldenrod, evidence of change beginning. When each finally surrenders to the changing times, forfeiting her splendor and ending our days of outdoor play. I brace myself for colder days, remembering the warmth of yesterday. I'll look over my shoulder and remind myself it will come again.

Yes, I see You in Autumn.

Soon the earth is silenced by the weight of cold, wrapped in blankets white. Branches crack. Life stills. It is hard to breathe when I can see my breath. Everything is covered and deceptively clean. Death appears beautiful for a time.

Yes, I see you in Winter.

Soon death's hour is past and put to rest. Then everything becomes uncovered. Yes, death's time has come to an end. But what has been left? Beauty has escaped with the covering. Everything is raw with ominous filth. Daunting, hurting, hemorrhaging from the cold. But hope of life again faithfully taps the earth on the shoulder. Death slowly unfolds into life again. Everything new bravely surfaces, pushing through the wreckage of yesterday.

Yes, I see you in Spring.

Everything in time.

Everything in season.

Yes, I see You in me.
