The prostitute ministry that we were going to be working with isn’t going to need us, which really disappointed our group. I was curious about what God was up to, knowing that this ministry was why God has me here in Reheboth. I was talking with Josie about it, and she decided that it was from God that we start a prostitute ministry here in Reheboth because there isn’t one. God never called us to that ministry organization, just to that ministry.
So we’re continuing. We have the vision of opening a shelter for prostitutes and vulnerable women and children. Right now, I’ve been set to the task of writing a proposal for the Town Council. In it, we (as a team) are asking for a plot of land and some building materials for the shelter. Romie (Josie’s husband) owns a construction company and will provide the labor, and re-elections are coming up very soon, so it’s a good time to ask for political favors.
What we hope to see accomplished is for the shelter to not only be a home for women, but also a business location for them to provide for themselves. The women who live in the home will agree to earn money through one of various business venues set up for them. To start, we hope to build a laundry/alterations/seam work business that also is available for people to hire to buy their groceries and do spring cleaning. After that is established, they hope to teach women to cut hair and do pedicures and manicures (we found women just today who are willing to teach these skills to the recovering women for free) and open a salon. The last business venue we hope to open is something like Naomi’s Kitchen, for those of you in IA. Basically, families (target clients specifically being working mothers) come in and choose 6 or 12 meals from a menu, and then prepare them with the uncooked ingredients and package them for freezing for later or cooking at home that evening.
This is a very large undertaking, but it is something we can start while being confident that it will continue and be completed at a later date because of the Rehebothers working with us on this project. Their passion has ignited ours. They are initiating, planning and praying with us every step of the way. We’re just using our influence as Americans to bring about their vision. I cannot wait to see what God does with this. When it is done, I have a feeling it will be much bigger than we ever imagined ourselves being part of.
