6.11.09

I woke up this morning to birds outside the window and Bethany snuggling up on my right (yes, with all the blankets). What a wonderful way to start the day. only coffee could make it any better. J
We toured Block E (the poorest block in the town) in an SUV. While taking pictures. Immediately following, we toured a local spa, a heated swimming pool with bungalows for rent for Reheboth’s wealthy. We are so American. Blinded. Comfortable. Numb.
We cooked some sausages that a women in a meat shop gave us as a gift, hoping we’d be back to purchase “many many meats” the following day. Razis, our tour guide and friend, served them to us in his home. I simply couldn’t get it down. I was horrified at my own behavior. An hour later, we ate a catered meal at the ministry headquarters, Hope’s Promise”. I was proud of myself for stopping eating when full (a very non-American thing to do) until Razis looked at my plate and said, “Don’t waste food” in his broken English. Oh, I just can’t get it right. I’m so blinded by American culture, and I can’t seem to take the blind fold off.

Oh, and did I mention I got dreads? I did. Too bad pictures won't upload. I'm sure my daddy would love to see them.
